The Junior Choir

An exciting opportunity for your child
All Saints Church offers children aged 8 to 11+ an invitation to join our Junior Choir and receive a free musical education with the opportunity to:
- Learn to sing
- Learn to read music
- Learn to play the recorder
- Learn to be part of a choir team
As they progress they will gain certificates and begin to sing at some Sunday services, lead All-Age Worship and eventually sing for weddings, concerts and other special occasions, as part of our robed choir. They will also gradually progress through the Royal School of Church Music training scheme and earn medals and ribbons. As they become proficient at the recorder they will contribute to concerts and to our All-Age worship services.
All this is offered during an hour long session every Friday evening during term time under the professional leadership of our Director of Music: Barry Lancaster MA(Oxon), ARCO, LTCL, with assistance from other qualified teachers.
This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to get a free musical education, to gain an important sense of belonging, to build the commitment and discipline necessary to be part of a robed choir and to get the opportunity to sing for special occasions.
Everything is provided at no cost to parents and during the course of each year we hope to offer trips and social events. Once they have satisfactorily completed their probationary period children are given their robes and encouraged to sing with the choir once a month on a Sunday morning.
If your child enjoys singing and if you think they have the beginnings of a musical talent do encourage them to come along and give it a go. You never know – they may be the next Aled Jones or Charlotte Church – both of whom began by singing in church choirs!
We only have limited places available and we only recruit new probationers once or twice a year, so if your child is keen, please do express an interest promptly. We do this by offering a taster session to children in our local primary schools, but we do also welcome children who attend school outside Holbeach. If more children are interested than we currently have spaces for they will be put on a waiting list and be invited to join us as soon as places become available.
If you would like to express an interest or find out more please email: [email protected]
We have adopted the Church of England House of Bishops’ policy on Child Protection for all our work with children.
All our volunteers have completed a DBS check and work under close supervision.Junior Choir News
On Sunday 3rd May 2026, three of our Junior Choir – Amelia, Olivia and Ellie, received their first RSCM award during our Cafe Church service. They have been working very hard during the past few months to achieve a number of targets related to skills and knowledge in such things as using the voice well, reading and understanding basic music symbols, aural skills, discussing styles and features of music they have sung, and commitment to the choir. They were presented with a special certificate and a medal to wear on their robes. Sofia has also achieved this award but wasn’t able to be at this service, so will receive it on Trinity Sunday. We are very proud of all four girls.
On 2nd May 2026, Members of the Junior Choir, accompanied by Kim and Neil, enjoyed a trip to Peterborough Cathedral, where, after a picnic tea on the lawn, they were given a tour of the Cathedral by Canon Rowan, during which they particularly enjoyed seeing the dedication to Katharine of Aragon and hearing about the significance of pomegranates being laid there; the magnificent fan vaulted ceiling at the East End of the building, and also the place where Mary, Queen of Scots was first laid to rest. The juniors were also extremely impressed by the enormous full-scale cast of Patagotitan Mayorum, the largest known dinosaur, which is on display in the Cathedral until 31st May.After the tour, the juniors were able to sit in the quire to hear older choristers from local churches (mainly St Wulfrum’s, Grantham) sing the service of Evensong. Our juniors were amazed by the acoustics and inspired by how well the dozen-or-so youngsters sang, accompanied by a similar number of adult singers. The event was organised by Future Voices – part of the Voices South division of the RSCM. Our thanks to all who helped to make this trip possible, especially Josh Hutchinson at RSCM headquarters. We had a super day, and our juniors were a credit to All Saints. We use cookies to ensure that we give you the best experience on our website.
